Hello, Antioch! Happy Friday! I hope you had a great week! There are a lot of things going on this weekend in Antioch! First, I’m excited to provide an update on the park naming process for the village’s new downtown park! This past week, our Parks Commission sorted through the hundreds of naming suggestions, and narrowed the choices to five names. Early next week, the village will announce a voting process for residents to weigh in on their choice as the top name for the park! Make sure to follow the village’s Facebook page for an announcement on how you can vote. Also, I had a chance to walk around the construction site this week – WOW! It is coming together in an amazing way. I took a few pictures (below) and plan to record another video in the next week or so (depending on when it’s dry and sunny). I’ll share the video as soon as we can get it done. The park is still on track to open this summer. We’ll share the grand opening plans in the coming months. Tonight at the Rivalry Alehouse, Mackenzie O’Brien will be playing starting at 7:30 p.m. You might recognize her name as the opening act for last year’s Rodney Atkins concert at the Bandshell. She is a great country music artist. I’m happy to see her return to Antioch! Tomorrow night, local non-profit The Penny’s Purpose is hosting a fundraising event/silent auction (4/20) at The Rivalry Ale House. More information about the group’s fundraiser is available on their Facebook page: The Penny’s Purpose NFP Also tomorrow (4/20), Village Trustee Scott Pierce, Township Trustee Kris Shepard, Township Supervisor Tom Shaughnessy, and Piggly Wiggly owner David Karczewski are hosting an “Essential Stuff” collection drive at the Piggly Wiggly between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. They’ll be collecting items such as toilet paper, baby wipes, deodorant, etc. for distribution in our community. Later this summer, NorthBridge Church will be hosting the grand opening of the Treehouse Community Playground. This is an exciting project that will open an inclusive and accessible playground for members of our community and the surrounding area. This coming Monday, Antioch Pizza will be hosting a fundraiser to help offset some of the construction costs for the park. If you buy pizza anytime on Monday, a donation will be made to help the park! For more information about the Treehouse Community Playground, check our their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/TreehouseInclusivePlayground Antioch Community High School will be hosting a fundraising concert next month for the school – this looks like a fun evening! 1964: The Tribute is playing at the high school on May 10, 2024. Happy Friday, Antioch! It’s nice to finally see the sun today and hope everyone had a great first week back from Spring Break and Easter Break. Speaking of the sun, I’m sure you’ve heard about the solar eclipse happening on Monday. I just saw the State Bank of The Lakes post on its Facebook page that they are giving out FREE solar eclipse glasses, while supplies last. Through the weekend, the village will be accepting name suggestions for the open space redevelopment project at Orchard and Main. So far, we’ve received hundreds of suggestions! I’m grateful for the great response from our community! If you would like to submit a name, you must be a resident of the Village of Antioch. Criteria for the suggested names should include relevance to the redevelopment site’s historical value, geographical location, mission, and other notable connections to the Village of Antioch. Names that are similar to existing parks, properties, or facilities will not be considered to avoid confusion. After Sunday night, all nominations will be reviewed by the Village of Antioch Parks Commission. Then, the Antioch Parks Commission will pick their top five names, and our community will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite name! If you’ve never had an opportunity to visit their museum, I recommend that you do. It’s a great way to learn about our town’s exciting and rich history.
