For Immediate Release Press Release- Emergency Curfew Order Lifted Antioch, IL. – Thursday, August 27, 2020 The Antioch Police Department extends our thanks to the entire community for their overwhelming show of support and the level of cooperation exhibited during last night’s emergency curfew, issued by Mayor Hanson. As most can understand, decisions that affect people’s lives can be some of the most difficult to make. One must carefully balance the impact to individuals with what is best for the safety of the entire community. Adding to the level of difficulty in making these decisions is the rate in which the information and circumstances evolve. Yesterday, based upon the best information available, there was reason to believe the Village was identified as a potential target for a large-scale social unrest event, which led to Mayor Hanson’s decision to impose the emergency curfew. The Department continues to monitor all available information and current trends in an attempt identify and evaluate potential risks. After much careful consideration, based on the best information available at this time, Mayor Hanson, in collaboration with the police department, has made the decision to lift the emergency curfew order. We ask the community to understand that situations such as these are often extremely fluid, and as a result, this decision is subject to reversal should a new need for an emergency curfew arise. Although the curfew is lifted, we want to reassure our community that the Department continues to respond appropriately in order to keep Antioch safe. We encourage our residents, businesses, and guests to remain vigilant in remaining aware of suspicious activity. On behalf of our entire Antioch community, the Antioch Police Department would like to extend our deepest thanks to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police for the valuable assistance they provided in helping keep the Village safe during these events.
For Immediate Release- Emergency Curfew Order August 26, 2020 Dear community member- As communicated to our community earlier today, our police department has identified several social media posts which indicate the Village of Antioch may be the target of unknown groups wishing to incite civil unrest, as a result of incidents taking place last night in Kenosha, WI As your Mayor, I take my responsibilities very seriously, and none more so than keeping our community safe for all. Throughout today’s recent events, I have remained in constant communication with our police department and Village leadership. Through my discussions with the Chief of Police and Village Administration, I have considered all available information in a deliberate and thoughtful manner in order to lead me to making the best decisions for our Village. In the current situation, based on a thorough evaluation of potential threats of civil unrest in our Village, and the potential for such a situation to create very a tense and potentially volatile environment, I have determined it is in the best interest of our community to issue an Emergency Curfew Order. This will be in effect only as long as necessary, and until this threatening situation no longer poses a threat to Antioch. The implementation of this curfew will assist our police department in allowing them to remain focused on what is most important right now, the protection of our town. As such, I declare and order that a curfew is hereby imposed on all persons within the Village effective from 8:00pm through 7:00am each day, until further notice. The need for the any continuation of the curfew will be continually evaluated, and I call on our community to understand the need for this measure. Yours in service- Lawrence M. Hanson Mayor, Village of Antioch Declaration of Emergency Curfew

The Village of Antioch is happy to announce that we are in receipt of a permit from the Stormwater Management Commission (SMC) to proceed with the bike path project. This was the final permit required to move forward with improvements. Construction should begin in the near future after the bidding process has been completed. For many years the bike path between Tiffany Road and Hillside Avenue has flooded. This is due to the path being constructed several decades ago in the floodplain without a drainage system. The path also runs through wetlands. Last year the Village began an engineering effort to define a solution. A plan has been developed to elevate the path and create drainage that will allow the path to be passable in all but the most serious flood conditions. That plan has been submitted to the Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE), the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission (SMC) for required permits. Last fall the ACOE issued their permit and last month the IDNR issued their permit.
The Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) has developed the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERA) to support Illinois tenants unable to pay their rent due to a COVID-19-related loss of income. Tenants whose application is approved will receive a one-time grant of $5,000 paid directly to their landlord to cover missed rent payments beginning March 2020 and prepay payments through December 2020, or until the $5,000 is exhausted, whichever comes first. Please see the following link for more information. ERA Flyer
