Good afternoon, Antioch! Happy Saturday! I’m sorry today’s message is a little late. We had a busy, but very fun day yesterday at the 1st Annual Northern Illinois Mayors’ Cup golf outing, hosted by the Antioch Chamber of Commerce. I am very thankful the outing was yesterday and not Thursday. I couldn’t imagine playing golf in better weather than we had yesterday. Congratulations, Antioch Township Supervisor Tom Shaughnessy on winning the tournament! We had a great turnout of mayors and other village officials from towns across Lake County. Thank you, Barbara Porch and her volunteers from the Antioch Chamber of Commerce who worked hard for months to put together an updated chamber golf outing. The attendance this year was the best I’ve seen in a while! In a few weeks, the Village of Antioch will be hosting a fun family event at the Tim Osmond Sports Complex, the Drive-In Laser Light Show! We’ve never hosted anything quite like this in town before. The laser light show will be on September 8th and 9th. Tickets start at only $39 per carload (so load up the car with a lot of friends and neighbors!) More information: https://www.facebook.com/events/201399422900375 The village’s first cannabis dispensary is getting ready to open. The Consume Cannabis dispensary is planning to open a 600 sq. foot temporary cannabis dispensary location at 471 Main Street in the next 30 to 45 days. The temporary location is designed to be operational while a permanent 9,300 sq. foot facility is built on the property adjacent to the temporary location. The Village Board originally voted to allow dispensaries to operate in the village back in 2019. Back in July, our board voted for a variance and special land use permit to allow for the temporary and permanent facilities at 453 and 471 Main Street. Our village communications team is currently working on a cannabis dispensary FAQ webpage, which should be online soon. You can read more about the dispensary in today’s Daily Herald: https://www.dailyherald.com/business/20230825/antiochs-first-marijuana-dispensary-expected-to-open-within-45-days Camp Crayon is hiring! The Parks Department tells me that they are currently looking to hire a teacher’s aide for the Camp Crayon 2-year-old program. For more information or to express interest in the position, contact Dawn Johnson at the Parks Department at djohnson@antioch.il.gov or 847-395-2160. Finally, I want to remind you that registration has started for the fall and winter Antioch Parks and Recreation programs. Check out the online catalog for the programs, including pickleball basics for adults! To see the online catalog online, visit: https://www.antioch.il.gov/download/Program%20Guides/Fall%20Winter/2023-2024-Fall-Winter-PR.pdf I hope you have a great weekend! Scott J.
