December 22, 2022 2:00 p.m. Winter Storm information from the Village of Antioch The latest information from the National Weather Service calls for dangerously cold temperatures starting this afternoon. Actual snowfall totals are not what makes the anticipated blizzard concerning and potentially life-threatening, it is the frigid temperatures mixed with strong winds. This storm is expected to produce blizzard conditions due to blowing snow, and dangerously low wind chills, as low as 30 to 40 below zero. The temperatures will cause issues with exposure in a matter of seconds, and also will impact travel. When temperatures drop this low, it impacts the effectiveness of salt on the roadways, which makes travel dangerous. The Village of Antioch urges residents to avoid travel, outdoor exposure, and to only leave home between now and Saturday morning for urgent issues. With the anticipated severe weather, the Antioch Village Hall will be closed on Friday, December 23, 2022. Village Hall will also be closed on Monday, December 26, 2022, in observance of the Christmas holiday. Antioch Village Hall is expected to reopen on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at 8 a.m. For more information about winter snow removal in the Village of Antioch, visit: https://www.antioch.il.gov/departments/public-works/street-and-sidewalk-snow-removal-operations/?fbclid=IwAR013cWIzwomjGP46o-T64GkUdY_bmyLG2IMvpRJgaCAqHLr1jg-Uu3EIWE

December 21, 2022 4:00 p.m. Winter Storm Warning information from the Village of Antioch With the forecasted severe weather expected to arrive later this week, the Village of Antioch is advising residents to take precautions before the arrival of the storm. A winter storm warning is in effect for Antioch and the entire Lake County region beginning at 12 noon tomorrow, Thursday, December 22nd, and remains in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday, December 24th. Snow and blowing snow, with winds gusting as high as 50 mph, are expected to produce occasional whiteout conditions and extremely cold temperatures with wind chills of 25 to 35 degrees below zero. Total snow accumulations are expected to be between 2 to 5 inches. The cold and wind are what will make this storm severe. The Village of Antioch asks residents to keep parked cars off of ANY public roadway. Parking is not allowed on any street in the Village after snowfall exceeds one inch (1″) in thickness). Parked cars impede the ability of snowplows to do their job. Please help us in our snow removal efforts by removing any parked vehicles from roadways. Also, please make sure that children do not play in the snow or build snow forts close to roadways. This creates a dangerous situation with passing snowplow trucks. During the blizzard, please do not go out if you don’t have to. Travel conditions on Friday and Saturday are expected to be very hazardous.

PRESS RELEASE Antioch Police Department hosts annual Shop with a Cop event The annual event provides gifts for over 50 local children and their families ANTIOCH, IL (December 7, 2022) —The Village of Antioch Police Department teamed up once again with the Raymond Auto Group to host the annual “Shop with a Cop” event. Along with help from several other community partners, this year’s “Shop with a Cop” helped spread holiday cheer to over 50 local children and their families. Each year, the Antioch Police Department works with local Antioch schools to identify needful families with children between the ages of five and twelve years old. This year, over 50 children from 29 different families were invited to participate. The children enjoyed a pizza party with pizza courtesy of Johnny’s Snack Shop and a visit with Santa at the Raymond Chevy/Kia dealership. As in years past, the Raymond Auto Group employees drew a participating child’s name and bought a gift for that child, which Santa gave them. After the party at the dealership, the families were escorted to Walmart to “Shop with a Cop”. Antioch Police Chief Geoffrey Guttschow is thankful for the enormous support the “Shop with a Cop” event receives from the Antioch Community. Specifically, the event could not happen without the support and financial contribution of the Raymond Auto Group and owner Mark Scarpelli. “The Antioch community never fails to amaze me with its generosity,” said Guttschow. “Mark Scarpelli and his staff at the Raymond Auto Group continue to step up and support this program with time and money. Without Mark’s support, “Shop with a Cop” would not happen. His generosity has allowed us to grow the shopping spree amount per child from $100 to $125, plus each family will be provided a $100 gift card toward a traditional holiday meal.” The Raymond Auto Group has been a partner of the Antioch “Shop with a Cop” event since the beginning, over 20 years ago. ### Contact: Jim Moran Village of Antioch Communication Specialist, jmoran@antioch.il.gov
