MONTHLY ARCHIVES: December 2023

Good afternoon, Antioch! Happy Saturday! I’m sorry today’s message is a little late. We had a busy, but very fun day yesterday at the 1st Annual Northern Illinois Mayors’ Cup golf outing, hosted by the Antioch Chamber of Commerce. I am very thankful the outing was yesterday and not Thursday. I couldn’t imagine playing golf in better weather than we had yesterday. Congratulations, Antioch Township Supervisor Tom Shaughnessy on winning the tournament! We had a great turnout of mayors and other village officials from towns across Lake County. Thank you, Barbara Porch and her volunteers from the Antioch Chamber of Commerce who worked hard for months to put together an updated chamber golf outing. The attendance this year was the best I’ve seen in a while! In a few weeks, the Village of Antioch will be hosting a fun family event at the Tim Osmond Sports Complex, the Drive-In Laser Light Show! We’ve never hosted anything quite like this in town before. The laser light show will be on September 8th and 9th. Tickets start at only $39 per carload (so load up the car with a lot of friends and neighbors!) More information: https://www.facebook.com/events/201399422900375 The village’s first cannabis dispensary is getting ready to open. The Consume Cannabis dispensary is planning to open a 600 sq. foot temporary cannabis dispensary location at 471 Main Street in the next 30 to 45 days. The temporary location is designed to be operational while a permanent 9,300 sq. foot facility is built on the property adjacent to the temporary location. The Village Board originally voted to allow dispensaries to operate in the village back in 2019. Back in July, our board voted for a variance and special land use permit to allow for the temporary and permanent facilities at 453 and 471 Main Street. Our village communications team is currently working on a cannabis dispensary FAQ webpage, which should be online soon. You can read more about the dispensary in today’s Daily Herald: https://www.dailyherald.com/business/20230825/antiochs-first-marijuana-dispensary-expected-to-open-within-45-days Camp Crayon is hiring! The Parks Department tells me that they are currently looking to hire a teacher’s aide for the Camp Crayon 2-year-old program. For more information or to express interest in the position, contact Dawn Johnson at the Parks Department at djohnson@antioch.il.gov or 847-395-2160. Finally, I want to remind you that registration has started for the fall and winter Antioch Parks and Recreation programs. Check out the online catalog for the programs, including pickleball basics for adults! To see the online catalog online, visit: https://www.antioch.il.gov/download/Program%20Guides/Fall%20Winter/2023-2024-Fall-Winter-PR.pdf I hope you have a great weekend! Scott J. Merry Christmas, Antioch! This week’s message will be short and sweet: First of all, if you’re looking for a last-minute gift idea, I’ve got a couple of suggestions – The Village of Antioch/Antioch Chamber Gift Cards are available digitally at, https://app.yiftee.com/gift-card/antioch-chamber–il . As a bonus, you get a $20 gift card for free, for every $50 gift card you buy! These gift cards are good at many local shops and restaurants and make perfect stocking stuffer gifts! Also, how about the gift of an experience? The 2024 Village of Antioch Winter Wine Walk is less than a month away, and tickets are on sale now! There will be nearly 30 stops and over 50 wines! Tickets for the Wine Walk make for a fun gift! Tickets are available here: https://secure.rec1.com/IL/village-of-antioch/catalog/index/50a643b5eaeb74a176c021e092fc9413?filter=c2VhcmNoPXdpbmU= Don’t forget to visit the holiday light show at the Bandshell, which runs daily through Christmas Day, from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m., and the Chamber’s Kringle Village and Dickens Holiday Village at 510 0rchard Street, which runs daily through New Year’s Day. For more information, visit: https://cm.antiochchamber.org/events The Antioch Police Department’s annual Shop with a Cop event was held earlier this week. This has become one of my favorite nights of the year! This is really a heartwarming and great event for the families and the kids who were involved. This year, the village and police department recognized Raymond Chevrolet / Kia and owner Mark Scarpelli for their support of Shop with a Cop. Mark has been a big part of this program for over 20 years, donating time and significant financial contributions. The Antioch Police Department’s Shop with a Cop event would not be possible without the collaboration and support of Raymond Chevrolet / Kia, the generosity of community members, and the assistance of the Lindenhurst Police Department. Thank you, all! This weekend is a great time to catch a Christmas movie at the historic Antioch Theatre! I just saw on their Facebook page that the Antioch Theatre is showing a FREE Christmas showing of the Polar Express this Sunday at 10 a.m.! Plus, the theatre will be offering free concessions courtesy of Raymond Chevrolet / Kia. For more information, visit the Antioch Theatre Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/AntiochTheatre Finally, I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a healthy holiday season! Scott J.
