Good afternoon, Antioch! Happy Saturday! I’m sorry today’s message is a little late. We had a busy, but very fun day yesterday at the 1st Annual Northern Illinois Mayors’ Cup golf outing, hosted by the Antioch Chamber of Commerce. I am very thankful the outing was yesterday and not Thursday. I couldn’t imagine playing golf in better weather than we had yesterday. Congratulations, Antioch Township Supervisor Tom Shaughnessy on winning the tournament! We had a great turnout of mayors and other village officials from towns across Lake County. Thank you, Barbara Porch and her volunteers from the Antioch Chamber of Commerce who worked hard for months to put together an updated chamber golf outing. The attendance this year was the best I’ve seen in a while! In a few weeks, the Village of Antioch will be hosting a fun family event at the Tim Osmond Sports Complex, the Drive-In Laser Light Show! We’ve never hosted anything quite like this in town before. The laser light show will be on September 8th and 9th. Tickets start at only $39 per carload (so load up the car with a lot of friends and neighbors!) More information: https://www.facebook.com/events/201399422900375 The village’s first cannabis dispensary is getting ready to open. The Consume Cannabis dispensary is planning to open a 600 sq. foot temporary cannabis dispensary location at 471 Main Street in the next 30 to 45 days. The temporary location is designed to be operational while a permanent 9,300 sq. foot facility is built on the property adjacent to the temporary location. The Village Board originally voted to allow dispensaries to operate in the village back in 2019. Back in July, our board voted for a variance and special land use permit to allow for the temporary and permanent facilities at 453 and 471 Main Street. Our village communications team is currently working on a cannabis dispensary FAQ webpage, which should be online soon. You can read more about the dispensary in today’s Daily Herald: https://www.dailyherald.com/business/20230825/antiochs-first-marijuana-dispensary-expected-to-open-within-45-days Camp Crayon is hiring! The Parks Department tells me that they are currently looking to hire a teacher’s aide for the Camp Crayon 2-year-old program. For more information or to express interest in the position, contact Dawn Johnson at the Parks Department at djohnson@antioch.il.gov or 847-395-2160. Finally, I want to remind you that registration has started for the fall and winter Antioch Parks and Recreation programs. Check out the online catalog for the programs, including pickleball basics for adults! Happy Friday, Antioch! The first Village of Antioch Wine Walk of 2024 is tomorrow! We’ve worked at increasing the amount of Wine Walk participants that we’re able to handle. This means that there are more tickets available for sale. I’m told that as of this afternoon, there are still tickets available. Tickets are $45 per person and include roughly 30 stops with over 50 types of wine. So far, over 550 tickets have been sold! Not only is this a fun event, but it’s also exciting to see the participating shops and restaurants full of people enjoying our town and supporting the local economy. Thank you to all the businesses that are helping to make this a success! To purchase tickets, visit: https://secure.rec1.com/IL/village-of-antioch/catalog/index/50a643b5eaeb74a176c021e092fc9413?filter=c2VhcmNoPXdpbmU= Last weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the grand opening ribbon-cutting for the new Antioch Traveling Closet NFP location. Congratulations Lisa Fisher and the ATC team! Their new location is in the Depot Plaza, 311 Depot Street (near the train station). All moved into the new location, they’re already busy getting ready for their first giveaway event of the year. Tomorrow, the Antioch Traveling Closet will be holding a giveaway of clothing, toiletries, and essential items for families in need, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at their new location. Please note, this event is only for residents of Antioch, Lake Villa, and Lindenhurst (IDs will be required to show residency). Thank you to Lisa Fisher and all her volunteers for everything you do. More information: https://antiochtravelingcloset.org At our last Village Board meeting, we received an update from the Antioch Veterans Memorial committee about their fundraising efforts. The Daily Herald had a great write-up about their update, along with pictures. You can read the story here: https://www.dailyherald.com/20240117/news/fundraising-to-get-underway-for-long-sought-veterans-memorial-in-antioch/ Also, make sure you follow the Antioch Veterans Memorial committee’s Facebook page for more updates. Congratulations Antioch Police Commander Nick Garcia! Commander Garcia recently completed the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety School of Police Staff and Command. This program is an internationally renowned intensive 10-week police leadership training program. We’re proud of your accomplishment and grateful for your dedicated service to our community, Commander Garcia! Finally, I had a chance to walk past the village redevelopment project at Main and Orchard earlier this morning. Despite the cold temperatures, progress continues to be made. Once the weather improves, I’ll have more pictures to share. I’m also working with our Village communications team to make a video update to show our progress. Look for something in the coming weeks. I look forward to seeing you downtown for tomorrow’s Wine Walk! Have a great weekend, Antioch! Scott J. Happy Snow Day, Antioch! I think days like this bring out the inner child in all of us. As a kid, there was nothing quite as exciting as an unexpected snow day! I hope that if you have had to go out in this weather, it was for fun. The roads have been a bit rough all day today. I wanted to give a shout-out to our snowplow drivers at the Antioch Public Works Department. Our plow drivers have been out since early this morning making sure our village streets were safe for travel. Thank you, Antioch PW for all that you do! In addition to the Antioch Public Works Department, the men and women of the Antioch Police Department have also been out in force today. Even with rough road conditions, these officers haven’t missed a beat. I am grateful for their dedication to our community. Our village has an outstanding team of dedicated employees. Do you have your Winter Wine Walk tickets yet? We’re only about a week away from the 2024 Winter Wine Walk! I’d suggest getting tickets now before they’re gone. If you don’t have a chance to buy tickets, Star 105.5 will be giving away tickets all this next week on the Star Morning Show with Joe and Tina! The 2024 Winter Wine Walk is next Saturday, January 20th. Tickets are $45 per person. The Wine Walk will have about 30 stops and roughly 50 types of wine to try! To purchase tickets, you can: 1) Call the Antioch Parks Department at 847-395-2160, 2) Email the Antioch Parks Department at parks@antioch.il.gov, 3) Shop online at: https://secure.rec1.com/IL/village-of-antioch/catalog/index/50a643b5eaeb74a176c021e092fc9413?filter=c2VhcmNoPXdpbmU= At our Village Board meeting this past Wednesday, the board re-approved the Final Plat for Phase IV of the Clublands development. This is exciting to see move forward! Having a developer looking to invest in building 347 owner-occupied single family homes in Antioch is a fantastic endorsement of our village. It’s become a lot less common to see major developments like this anywhere in Chicagoland. This area was first approved for development by the village board back in 2007, but then Neumann Homes went bankrupt and the development stopped. It’s great to see continued growth in our village. In addition to new homes, I’m excited to hear about more businesses looking to locate or expand in our village. Also at our last board meeting, the Village Board approved an economic incentive agreement with Raymond Kia. This will not only help the Raymond Auto Group expand its presence in our community (and sell more cars). This development has also sparked the interest of other businesses to locate within our community. Several have already signed letters of intent to locate to this new development. I can’t wait to share more information when it becomes available. Also at our last Village Board meeting, the village adopted a resolution making Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day a village holiday. In observance of the holiday, all village offices will be closed on Monday, January 15th. The Antioch Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the Antioch Junior Women’s Club for a night of laughs in February. The annual Comedy Night and silent auction will be held on Saturday, February 3rd at the Antioch VFW Hall. The event will raise funds for Open Arms Food Pantry, Save-A-Pet, Midwest Veteran’s Closet, AAHAA-Antioch Area Healthcare Accessibility Alliance, A Safe Place, Antioch Junior Woman’s Club, and the Antioch Chamber of Commerce. Tickets are $45 each, or a table for 8 for $320. More information and a link to purchase tickets are available at: https://cm.antiochchamber.org/events/details/comedy-night-dinner-with-stand-up-comedian-2-3-24-8040 The Antioch Parks Department Sweetheart Luau Dance is coming up on Saturday, February, 10th at Northbridge Church. This is a chance for you to share a fun-filled evening with your little girl(s)! To purchase tickets, call the Antioch Parks Department at 847-395-2160, email the Antioch Parks Department at parks@antioch.il.gov, or visit https://secure.rec1.com/IL/village-of-antioch/catalog/index/0b872891ab9552d0d737834f3c313e52?filter=c2VhcmNoPXN3ZWV0aGVhcnQ%3D&fbclid=IwAR3O9-Q-vGP5DEPVvnm3wP5AFMcoJzf6QAW7X48Hs-xBDIk9xXWIVmCBcMw I hope you have a great weekend!
