MONTHLY ARCHIVES: July 2021
Public Works will have crews from GO Painters, Inc. working on an ongoing project of sandblasting and painting fire hydrants. The areas include Route 173 near Menard’s East to Antioch Corporate Center. It will also include the residential subdivisions of Red Wing View, NeuHaven and Clublands to begin July 30 taking approximately one to two weeks. The hydrants will be painted yellow and the project will be weather dependent. Thank you.
The Mayor and the Village Board appointed five members from the community to serve on the newly created Historic Preservation Commission at the Village Board meeting on June 23, 2021. The new members are Ainsley Wonderling, as Chairperson, David Cornes, AIA, Kacey Stevens, Kelly Nawrocki, and Margaret Cole. With these appointments, the Village of Antioch will be the newest community in Lake County, Illinois to create a Historic Preservation Commission and will join the numerous communities throughout the metro area that have dedicated themselves to preserve their historic fabric. Antioch is proud of its historic Downtown and numerous historic neighborhoods. Through the adoption of the Village’s Historic Preservation Commission and the new commissioners, Antioch will be able to preserve its rich historic fabric for future generations.
Residents may notice some activity at the Northeast corner of Main and Orchard Street in the coming weeks. The Public Works Department will be removing existing sections of the culvert near Route 83, and replacing it with two new pieces of culvert 20-feet in length each. These efforts will allow the fence to be set back further from the roadway and eliminate an excavated area directly near Route 83. Once the new culvert has been installed, it will be backfilled to the existing parking lot grade. After reviewing proposals, Village staff also expects to make a recommendation to the Village Board at the meeting on July 28 for approval of an agreement for environmental services on the site. Although remediation needs are still unknown, having a consultant in place will allow for prompt and immediate mitigation.
Metra increasing service on 7 more lines ENHANCED SCHEDULES TO TAKE EFFECT JULY 12 CHICAGO (July 1, 2021) – Metra today posted schedules for expanded rush hour service to begin Monday, July 12 on seven additional lines to meet growing ridership. New schedules will take effect July 12 on the Heritage Corridor, Milwaukee District North and West, SouthWest Service, North Central Service and Union Pacific Northwest and West lines. On the same day, Metra will also launch previously announced new pilot schedules on the BNSF, Metra Electric and UP North lines that provide more off-peak options. A similar pilot schedule for the Rock Island Line is set to take effect on July 19. “My Metra is about listening to the needs of our riders. These new schedules are intended to help our customers transition back to a regular work commute providing them with more choices and flexibility,” said Metra CEO/Executive Director Jim Derwinski. “We expect ridership to continue to increase as the summer progresses and will continue to monitor conditions and make schedule adjustments that are responsive to our customers’ needs.” The new schedules can be viewed now at metrarail.com. In addition to new trains, there are minor adjustments to the timetables of some existing trains on some lines; customers are advised to review the new schedules to see if the timetables of their trains have changed. All the changes are highlighted on the new schedules. The guiding principles for Metra’s service restoration are to provide consistent and frequent service throughout the day; create easily understandable and memorable service patterns; implement new express service when possible in the peak travel periods; explore reverse-commute and new ridership markets; promote regional equity and create transfer opportunities within Metra and with other transit services.
