MONTHLY ARCHIVES: March 2020
COVID-19 Daily Update from the Village of Antioch – March 31, 2020 On March 29, the president extended the nation’s Slow the Spread campaign until April 30. Following the same guideline, Governor Pritzker has announced today that Illinois will extend its Stay-at-Home order through the end of April. We would like to remind residents to comply with social distancing if going outside, and stress that all park play structures, skate park, restrooms and shelters must remain closed. Signs were placed in all Village owned parks, and police will increase their patrol of these areas to ensure the safety of our residents. At this time, any essential Village Staff that is reporting to work is asked to take their temperature at home before coming in to work. We would encourage residents to do the same if they plan on leaving their homes for any essential services. Anyone with a temperature over 100 is advised to not call 911, but instead call their primary care physician for further guidance. Upon the recommendation of local public safety agencies, the Annual Easter Parade and Egg Hunt scheduled for April 11, 2020, and Flashlight Egg Hunt scheduled for April 9, 2020 will be cancelled. We would like to assure everyone that this decision was made in the best interest of the public, and to keep our residents safe. The State of Illinois has reported up to 389 exposures in Lake County, with 5,994 in the State of Illinois and over 35,225 tested. The Lake County Health Department launched an interactive map of COVID-19 cases in Lake County, broken down by municipality. It can be viewed at: https://www.lakecountyil.gov/4423/Lake-County-COVID-19-Dashboard . Many of our local businesses and community partners have answered our calls for help and donated eyewear and gloves. Local school districts cleared out their science departments to give us much needed PPE. If you are aware of any businesses that may have PPE equipment, particularly N95 masks, please ask them to consider making a donation to the Antioch Emergency Operations Center through the Police Department west lobby. The Village of Antioch, First Fire Protection District and Antioch Township are all operating as one joint community through the pandemic. Any donations collected will be put into a cache for use by all 3 agencies in our own community. The Open Arms Mission is running critically low on toilet paper and other bathroom essentials. We ask all residents to make a donation to this local group if they can.

The Governor of Wisconsin has issued an Executive Order referred to as the “Safer at Home” Order which is similar to Governor Pritzker’s Executive Order for Illinois, that went into effect earlier this week. The Wisconsin Governor’s Order will take effect at 8:00am on Wednesday, March 25, 2020. We have learned that several residents of the Antioch Community have errantly received electronic warnings on their cellular devices, regarding the Executive Order issued in the State of Wisconsin. We would like to communicate, in order to avoid potential confusion, that Governor Pritzker’s Executive Order in Illinois remains in effect, and unchanged. It appears the electronic alert may have been transmitted to some Antioch residents due to the close physical proximity to the state border with Wisconsin.

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 18, 2020 From the office of the Mayor Lawrence M. Hanson At a press conference held on Friday, March 20, 2020, Governor JB Pritzker announced a “Stay at Home” order for the entire State of Illinois beginning March 21 at 5pm through April 7. Currently there are 585 cases in 25 counties across Illinois. The “Stay at Home” order asks Illinoisians to remain in their homes, but allows for essential trips. Those employed in essential services will continue to go to work. The governor said people will still be able to go out to get food from the grocery store, to get medical supplies from the pharmacy, to visit their doctor or healthcare provider, to fill up their car at the gas station, or to go for a run, hike, or walk with their dog (while maintaining a social distance of at least 6 feet). Many people will still be able to go to work, however all non-essential businesses must stop working, and anyone able to work from home must do so. The Village of Antioch will continue to provide critical services to its residents. Police and Fire Departments will continue to operate with as much limited personal contact as possible. Antioch Police Officers will only be responding in-person to high-priority and emergency calls including, but not limited to: vehicle crashes, burglaries, domestic and non-domestic disturbances, and all other crimes against persons. To file a report or complaint that is of a non-emergency nature, the public is asked to continue to call the non-emergency line at (847) 395-8585. The telecommunicator will take the required information and an officer will contact you as soon as possible via telephone to handle the call for service. Additional essential functions of the water and sewer systems will be continually monitored, as well as the wastewater treatment facility. Snow removal will be done in the event of a snowfall greater than 2”. Village facilities will remain closed to the public, but online requests will still be monitored and phone lines will also remain open M-F from 8-5. We urge citizens to report any important issues online or on the phone, and remind them to call 9-1-1 in case of an emergency. We have also been notified by our waste hauler, Groot, that pickup will be limited to collection of garbage in either a cart, bag or can. Any direct contact with loose garbage at the curb would cause unnecessary risk to those drivers. We understand the difficulty of this situation, will continue to communicate to our residents through our website and social media. We ask the people of Antioch to help our community by following the orders issued in the interest of public health and safety.
Antioch Police Response Update In an effort to reduce the potential exposure to Coronavirus (COVID-19) by police first responders, the Antioch Police Department will temporarily be adjusting response procedures. Antioch Police Officers will only be responding in person to high-priority and emergency calls including, but not limited to, vehicle crashes, burglaries, domestic and non-domestic disturbances, and all other crimes against persons. To file a report or complaint that is of a non-emergency nature, the public is asked to continue to call the non-emergency line at (847) 395-8585. The telecommunicator will take the required information and an officer will contact you as soon as possible via telephone to handle the call for service. A similar procedure will be utilized for those who attempt to make in-person reports in the west-lobby of the police department. In situations, where a complainant does not have access to a phone, an officer will respond in a traditional manner. Examples of non-emergency calls include, but are not limited to, low-value theft reports, damage to property, informational calls, and ordinance violations. The community is reminded to call 9-1-1 in an emergency for an immediate police response. As a temporary measure, the following services are being suspended in our attempt to follow social distancing guidelines for first responders as published by the Center for Disease Control: Ride-alongs Department tours Public Fingerprinting Vehicle lockouts (unless there is a person or pet locked inside the vehicle) Prescription Drug Disposal Collection Antioch Police Offices continue to patrol the Village around the clock, and while response procedures are temporality being changed, we remain fully committed to maintaining uninterrupted essential police services to the Village. The members of the Antioch Police Department thank you for your support and cooperation during these unprecedented times.
