MONTHLY ARCHIVES: May 2020
Village facilities will be open to the public beginning June 1, 2020. Village Hall will be open from 8-10am for senior citizens and at-risk individuals. We will open to the general public from 10-4. In order to maintain social distancing, only 1 resident will be allowed in the front office area at a time. All visitors will be required to use hand sanitizer and wear a mask upon entry. When possible, we encourage business to be conducted via phone, email or website. Meetings with administration must be made by appointment only, and virtual meetings are still encouraged. We ask residents to utilize the dropbox outside Village Hall whenever possible. We would like to thank our residents for their support during this unprecedented time.
Following the announcement of the Restore Illinois Plan, and making the health and safety of our residents and staff our number one priority, the Village of Antioch is taking preventative steps to help limit the spread of the coronavirus disease. The primary mission of the Village is to promote the common welfare of the community. To that end we have decided to delay the start of summer programs and the opening of the Antioch Aquatic Center to July. Please be assured that any current registrants will receive full refunds for June camp dates. Beginning in June, provided the Stay at Home Order has been lifted, staff will begin to explore the viability of running safe summer programs and aquatic facility operations, and address the challenges of extensively training and preparing staff to deliver services in a safe manner. Moreover, should the Antioch Aquatic Center open, it will do so without offering a swim lesson program, rentals, or aquatic special events this season. This decision also includes the cancellation or postponement of all scheduled special events and concerts up to and including the 4th of July parade, Freedom Run, and Fireworks display. The Village of Antioch will reassess the remainder of the summer season in early June. Further, the Antioch Senior Center will remain closed to the public indefinitely, but remains accessible via phone for those seeking information and resources. We are grateful for your patience, understanding and continued support as we work to provide safe and realistic seasonal programming services to the residents of Antioch. In the coming days please look for a link on our Village Facebook page to the Park and Recreation Departments Virtual Rec Center. It is our sincere hope that this site will provide residents with fun and safe activities over the coming weeks. Any communication regarding these services or other Village concerns should be done via our website under https://www.antioch.il.gov/citizen-action-line/ , or by phone to (847) 395-1000.
COVID-19 Daily Update from the Village of Antioch – May 9, 2020 Governor Pritzker extended the Stay-At-Home Order for Illinois through Saturday May 30, 2020 with certain modifications. For more information, please visit the State of Illinois Coronavirus Response Website at: coronavirus.illinois.gov. The State of Illinois will now also require that any individual over the age of 2, and medically able to tolerate it, wear a face covering in a public place where a 6-foot distance cannot be maintained. Here’s a reminder of some simple things our residents can do during this pandemic: Stay-At-Home – First and foremost, stay at home whenever possible. The State of Illinois now has their order in place until May 30. Wear a face covering if you do have to go out to provide or receive essential services. This will help protect people around you if you are infected but do not have symptoms. Wash your hands – the CDC recommends washing your hands with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds to help avoid the spread of COVID-19. Clean frequently touched surfaces often – this includes things such as doorknobs, counters, tabletops, light switches, toilets, phones. Practice Social Distancing – We would like to remind residents the importance of complying with social distancing if going outside, and stress that all park play structures, skate park, restrooms and shelters must remain closed. Signs were placed in all Village owned parks, and police will increase their patrol of these areas to ensure the safety of our residents. Social distancing means restricting gatherings to fewer than 10 people, and remaining at least 6 feet apart from others. Other ways to help: If you are aware of any businesses that may have PPE equipment, particularly N95 masks, please ask them to consider making a donation to the Antioch Emergency Operations Center through the Police Department west lobby. The Village of Antioch, First Fire Protection District and Antioch Township are all operating as one joint community through the pandemic. Any donations collected will be put into a cache for use by all 3 agencies in our own community. If you would like to be paired up with a senior Pen Pal, please email Courtney Kotloski at: ckotloski@antiochtownshipil.gov and you’ll be connected with a Pal. The Open Arms Mission is still running critically low on toilet paper and other bathroom essentials. We ask all residents to make a donation to this local group if they can. Antioch Traveling Closet is accepting food donations as well for delivery to those in need. The First Fire Protection District has placed a temporary ban on outdoor burning. All Burning is now prohibited until June 1, 2020. Outdoor fireplaces/pits will be permitted as long as they are not a nuisance to the neighbors. Please feel free to contact the Fire Station with any questions. On today’s date, the State of Illinois has reported 5,199 exposures in Lake County, with 76,085 in the State of Illinois and over 416,331 tested. For many years the bike path between Tiffany Road and Hillside Avenue has flooded. This is due to the path being constructed several decades ago in the floodplain without a drainage system. The path also runs through wetlands. We understand that it was originally intended as a way to use Village property that would otherwise have limited public use, but it has turned out to be a heavily used amenity, despite its susceptibility to periodic flooding. With the recent heavy rains in the area, the path is now more flooded than usual. Last year the Village began an engineering effort to define a solution. A plan has been developed to elevate the path and create drainage that will allow the path to be passable in all but the most serious flood conditions. That plan has been submitted to the Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE), the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission (SMC) for required permits. Last fall the ACOE issued their permit and last month the IDNR issued their permit. The Village, through it’s engineering consultants, is working on the final engineering revisions to gain the SMC permit. Once all the permits are in place the Village will begin the construction to fix the bike path. It is anticipated that work will begin this year.
