It is time to start thinking about that magical time of year already. We are planning our annual Christmas parade. If you are interested in participating in the parade, please fill out the form below and return it to Antioch’s Parks & Recreation. The parade will be held on Friday November 29th, (the day after Thanksgiving) at 6:30 p.m. Information on line-up and parade route will be emailed to you the week of the parade. If you have any questions, please call Parks and Recreation at 847-395-2160. There is no entry fee. You are only allowed 2 vehicles per entry. We would ask that you do not include “Live Santa” in your entry as the “Official Santa” will be riding on the float at the end of the parade . Also. If you have horses in your entry, you must have a clean-up crew after them! Remember, the Village of Antioch does not allow throwing of anything from the vehicles because of danger to children. You may designate someone to walk along and pass out treats. The annual tree lighting will take place immediately after the parade at Village Hall. Return your entry by Wednesday, November 20th at 5 p.m. to: Village of Antioch Parks & Recreation Dept. 806 Holbek Dr. Antioch Download Parade Application Online Parade Application
At the October 23, 2019 Village Board Special Meeting, the Village Board voted to approve Resolution No. 19-62 directing the Planning and Zoning Board to consider a draft ordinance siting cannabis-related businesses and directing the Village Attorney to draft a proposed tax ordinance and related decriminalization ordinances. The Planning and Zoning Board is currently in the process of considering a comprehensive zoning ordinance update. Included in this discussion will be recommendations on the siting of cannabis-related businesses. The next Planning and Zoning Board meeting, scheduled for November 14, 2019 is currently intended to include this discussion as directed by the Village Board. Please note that there are times when schedules change or meetings are rescheduled. Please check the website shortly before November 14th to make sure this schedule hasn’t been altered. Please visit the Village webpage on recreational marijuana in Illinois for more information on this topic.
Beginning January 1, 2020 recreational use of marijuana for adults 21 and over will become legal in the State of Illinois. Private and personal consumption of cannabis cannot be restricted by local governments, however, the act does prohibit the use of cannabis in public places, schools and child care facilities, among other locations. Municipalities may adopt and enforce local ordinances to regulate possession and public consumption of cannabis as long as the regulations and penalties are consistent with the Act signed into law June 25, 2019.
As of Sept. 24, anyone in Lake County who needs help finding health and human services can call 211 and get quickly connected to available resources. The 211 service, provided by United Way of Lake County , is a free, confidential information and referral helpline that will enable Lake County residents to get the help they need 24 hours a day, regardless of the language they speak or where they live. When you call 211 or text your zip code to 898211 from anywhere in Lake County, you will be connected to an expert navigator who will guide you to critical health and human services, including counseling, housing and shelter, food programs, healthcare and mental health services, addiction and problem gambling support, transportation, and so much more. The Lake County Board contributed a portion of the funding for the new 211 program, allocating $80,000 in video gaming revenue, which is generated from video gaming in the unincorporated areas. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will be making improvements to several of their roadways beginning early October. A portion of their plans includes Route 173 from Grimm Road, east to Route 45. The proposal includes patching (intermittent resurfacing) of the affected areas. Work is expected to begin shortly, and appropriate signage will be placed by IDOT.
