Happy Friday, Antioch! I hope you had a great week! Last week, I had the pleasure of sharing a video highlighting the construction progress with our open space development project at Main and Orchard. This week, I’m excited to announce another milestone! Starting today, Village of Antioch residents can submit their suggestions on what to call the new park! To submit a name, you must be a resident of the Village of Antioch. Criteria for the suggested names should include relevance to the redevelopment site’s historical value, geographical location, mission, and other notable connections to the Village of Antioch. Names that are similar to existing parks, properties, or facilities will not be considered to avoid confusion. All nominations will be reviewed by the Village of Antioch Parks Commission. Submissions will be accepted until April 7th, then the Antioch Parks Commission will pick their top five names, and our community will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite name! Submit your suggestion here: https://polco.us/n/res/vote/antioch-il/vote-to-name-the-villages-newest-public-open-space-round-1 Can you believe Easter is about a week away? The Antioch Parks and Recreation Department’s Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt (for 10-15-year-olds) will take be on Thursday, March 28th at 8:00 p.m. The Antioch Easter Parade will be on Saturday, March 30th at 10:30 a.m. with an Easter Egg hunt for the kids (ages 0-9) at 11:00 a.m. It’s not too late to get your kids signed up for either egg hunt. If you’re interested in participating, please contact our Parks Department to get a wristband for the event. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree in the Guttschow household… Earlier this week, the Lake Villa Village Board recognized the heroics of an Antioch area teen with autism who jumped into action when the driver of his school bus suffered a medical emergency and became incapacitated. Not only is Jeffrey Starck a brave hero who prevented what could have been a devastating traffic accident, but he’s also the son of Antioch Village Administrator and Police Chief, Geoff Guttschow! I know Geoff and his wife Annie are proud of Jeffery. So am I – Way to go! You can read more about Jeffery’s heroics in this Lake and McHenry County Scanner news article: https://www.lakemchenryscanner.com/2024/03/20/a-local-hero-student-awarded-for-stopping-school-bus-after-driver-experiences-medical-emergency-in-lake-villa/ Antioch Pizza is in the Sweet 16! Good afternoon, Antioch! Happy Friday! Today is International Women’s Day! I’d like to recognize the contributions of the many women who have made and continue to make Antioch a wonderful community. Thank you! Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of spending time at District 34’s Mary Kay McNeill Early Learning Academy to help celebrate D34 Day! This was the fourth annual District 34 Day (held each year on 3/4). I had a chance to join Ms. Revere and Mrs. Maybrun’s classes to read “We Don’t Eat Our Classmates” by Ryan T. Higgins. I hope the students had as much fun as I did! (Picture below: MKM Principal Gardner and me on D34 Day). Good afternoon, Antioch! Happy Friday! Spring is almost here, but we’re already planning for this summer in the Village of Antioch! 104 days from today, we’ll be opening up the It’s Thursday summer concert series at the Bandshell, but who’s counting 😊? Earlier this week, I joined US99’s Drew Walker and Raymond Chevrolet Kia’s Mark Scarpelli to announce that country music star Chris Cagle would be our opening act for the summer concert series! Each year, our kickoff concert seems to become a bigger and bigger deal! Last year we welcomed somewhere between 5,000 to 7,000 people to downtown Antioch. I can’t wait to showcase our community to another large crowd this summer. A complete list of who is performing this summer is in the graphic below. These concerts couldn’t happen without the support of the members of the Antioch Village Board, our radio partners, and our sponsors. Thanks again to Mark Scarpelli and the Raymond Auto Group for stepping up to be the Title Sponsor of our summer concert series. Mark, we’re grateful for all that you do for Antioch! Yesterday, I had the pleasure of walking the construction site for the village open space redevelopment project at Orchard and Main Street. WOW! It seems like every time I blink, more progress is being made on the site. The café building seems to have gone up almost overnight! They’re already planning to have the roof finished next week! While I was on the site, our village communications team took some videos. We hope to have them ready to share next week. Tickets are on sale now for the Antioch Chamber’s next Girl’s Night Out. The “Ears to You” Girl’s Night Out will be held on the evening of April 18th. Join the Antioch Chamber for a townwide scavenger hunt, raffles, and fun along with a magical After Hours Party for adults. The evening of fun will feature a theme related to the most famous mouse in the world!
