ANTIOCH WASTEWATER TREATMENT FACILITY

Treatment

For the residents of Antioch, your home is serviced by a public sewer system. Wastewater leaves your residence and then runs through a series of pipes and pumps to the wastewater treatment facility (WWTF). Here, the wastewater moves through a series of steps to clean the water, before being released into the Sequoit Creek and ultimately into the Chain of Lakes. The IEPA (Illinois EPA) and the US EPA regulates this process. The dried by-product (bio-solids) is hauled to farm fields and used as a fertilizer.



The current Wastewater Treatment facility went online in 2009. The facility is designed to treat an average of 2.0 million gallons per day with a design maximum of treating 9.2 million gallons of wastewater during peak flow. A staff of three highly skilled full-time employees maintains and operates the Treatment Facility. This staff has a combined forty years of wastewater knowledge.
